The Vol Navy Dock is OPEN to the public - August 23, 2019 - 3:00pm

This project is currently on schedule. Fabrication of the dock segments and components was completed in early July. Spud poles were galvanized and replaced prior to the fourth of July while installation of the new docks began August 1 with the docks scheduled to reopen before the first football game this season. First Completed Dock Segment

Component parts (floats, frames, edging, and decking) are assembled offsite.

Pilings

Steel pilings are galvanized and will then be driven into the riverbed to anchor the dock.

Pile Replacement

The existing piles are pulled and replaced one at a time.

Completed Dock Segments

Completed dock segments are stockpiled at the vendor’s assembly site. Segments will be transported by truck to the ramps at Ned McWherter Park and then floated downriver for installation.

Gangway

Like the dock segments, the aluminum gangway is fully assembled offsite and will be transported by barge when it’s time for installation.

Upstream Pier 75% Installed

After just two days on the water, the old upstream pier is completely removed. The new pier is in place with crews working to secure pile guides and finish bumpers.

First Segment Removed

Crews have removed the most upstream section of the dock and begin floating it upriver to Ned McWherter Park’s Boat Ramp where they will take the old segment out and start floating the preassembled replacement segment downstream.
