Project Complete

Construction is underway by Blalock Construction. Crews installed erosion control last fall and then removed trees and vegetation from the site towards the end of the year. Nonstop rain in January and February left the site too wet to work, but some dryer spells in March have allowed for significant progress including completing a cut through a hill on UT’s property that was the largest grading operation on the project. Crews are now preparing for the installation of the new box culvert across the intermittent stream on the UT Farm property. The culvert should be installed in the next month if weather holds.

Topsoil is removed from the path of the greenway and retained for reinstallation once grading is completed.

1-9-20 Clearing & Grubbing

Where significant grading is required, trees and roots must be removed and cleared from the project area before grading can occur. If not removed, organic mater would later decompose creating voids in the soil under the path.

3-9-20 Mass Grading Begins

A break in the rains provided an opportunity to begin mass grading operations. This effort will relocate about 3000 cubic yards of material (enough to cover nearly 2 acres of land a foot deep or fill six 1600 SF houses). The relocated dirt will be used on the adjacent Alcoa highway project.

3-30-20 Mass Grading Finishing

With almost all of the dirt relocated from the UT Farm property, the path of the greenway through the UT Farm property is beginning to emerge.

3-30-20 Alcoa Project Begins UT Farm Driveway

The Alcoa Highway project has eliminated the former driveway for the UT Farm property near their offices and will construct a new driveway off of Maloney Road to replace it. The new driveway had to be coordinated with the greenway which will cross it. Construction of the drive is now underway.

3-30-20 Work Begins in Maloney Road Park

Erosion control, construction fencing, and survey/staking are all well underway in Maloney Road Park with demolition and grading about to begin. During construction, portions of the park’s walking path will be closed.
