This page provides updates as to the current status of the ADA Improvements project and its impacts to the park.

Phase 1 - Fields 2-4 (June-December 2023)

Current Status: While all of the ADA project work on Phase 1 is complete, Knox County has several other projects underway in the Phase 1 area that will keep these fields closed until sometime in March. Additional work includes upgrading all of the field lighting to LED among other projects. For information on other work, contact Knox County Parks and Recreation.

Phase 2 - Field 1 & Football Field (Estimated October 2023-April 2024)

Current Status: Playground equipment installation is complete and the surfacing installation is underway. The site contractor has completed concrete for Field 1 and the football field. They are now backfilling and prepping to pave the remainder of the asphalt walking trail. Renovation of the football and baseball field restroom interiors is underway.
Current Impacts: A portion of the football field and Fields 1 is closed for renovations. Fields 2-4 also remain closed as Knox County upgrades the field lighting under a separate project. All three restroom and concessions buildings are closed for the winter with project work planned to take advantage of the winter closing to complete updates at these facilities. Portions of the central parking lot are closed for use by the contractor. All organized baseball/softball activities have been relocated to other facilities this fall while work is underway.

Phase 3 - Senior Center & Library (Estimated April 2024-August 2024)

Current Status: Phase 3 work has been divided into four subphases to minimize impacts on the Senior Center and Library operations. Phase 3A (which wraps up mid-May), replaces sidewalks around the back and side of the Carter Senior Center.
Upcoming Impacts: Phase 3B (mid-May through July 4th weekend) will close the Library restrooms and meeting room for renovations and rework the sidewalks between the Library and Senior Center. During this phase patrons accessing the Senior Center will do so from the back entrance and patrons to the Library will need to utilize restrooms at the Senior Center.

Phase 4 (Estimated September-December 2024)
Phase 5 (Estimated July-August 2024)
