Sam Duff Park ADA Improvements

10.21.21 - Erosion protection measures help keep sediment out of our stormwater systems, streams, and rivers. Orange construction fencing provides a clear delineation of the area under construction to allow the park to remain open.

10.21.21 — Demolition and grading is underway to build the new accessible sidewalk connection connecting Chapman Highway to the park. Temporary ramps provide access across the demolition area into the adjoining building entrances.

12.17.21 — The contractor has completed grading for the new sidewalk connecting the park to Chapman Highway including installation of forms and drainage structures to manage stormwater.

12.17.21 — Old wooden poles along the new sidewalk were beginning to rot out. KUB coordinated the replacement of these with new poles while the City’s improvements are underway.

12.17.21 — Forms and reinforcement for the retaining wall along a section of the sidewalk near the restrooms are in place and ready for concrete.

12.17.21 — THe restroom building’s original waterline lead to intermittent issues with the toilet flush valves. This project is taking the opportunity to upgrade that line to a standard 2” commercial service line.

12.17.21 — Rework of the restrooms to meet ADA requires rework of the sewer lines and allowed for installation of new floor drains.

12.17.21 — Sewer and water have been reworked in the restrooms to provide proper clearances for ADA stalls.

02.03.22 - With sewer and waterline rework complete, concrete floors in the restroom have been patched.

02.03.22 - Grading and formwork around the restroom building has been completed—the last prep work for the installation of 100+ yards of concrete to create an accessible pedestrian entrance from Chapman Highway to the park restrooms.

02.26.22 — With a short break in the weather, crews began pouring and finishing nearly 100 cubic yards of new concrete to build the sidewalk from Chapman Highway and the apron around the renovated restroom building.

02.26.22 — As the concrete pour was finishing unforecast rain moved into the area. Crews reacted quickly to construct a tent protecting the new uncured concrete.

22.03.09 — ~100 cubic yards of concrete was installed completing the accessible sidewalk from Chapman Highway into the park and creating a small plaza and accessible route around the restroom building.

22.03.10 — The base course of asphalt joining the existing drive to the new sidewalk was laid. A final wear course and striping will soon follow.

22.03.21 — With the completion of asphalt and landscaping, the new sidewalk connecting the park to Chapman Highway has opened.

22.03.21 — While signage is still being fabricated, striping of the new parking areas has been completed providing an accessible path to the park restrooms and even the adjoining businesses via the sidewalk.
